Put it on, take it off. Take it off, put it on. Put it on, take it off. Take it off, put it on.

UGH UGH UGH UGH UGH UGH UGH

Sometimes it’s not even a hot flash. It can be a freezing cold chill. Or just my knees getting cold.

My hot flashes started in a much bigger house than I have now, and I have lived through several houses before I got to 463 square feet of living space.

The first HFH (Hot Flash House) was 1400 square feet. About the same with the second HFH. But the third HFH was 2800 square feet. Now, I am in a comfortable 463 square feet.

There is a reason for telling you all this.

In the all the homes, I typically frequented 3 room. Kitchen, living room, bedroom. So, in those three rooms, I kept a stash of hot flash stuff.

But, the bigger the house, the harder it is to get to your stash before the hot flash hits.

Each room had a misting hand fan and a change of clothes. Well, two changes of clothes or “accoutrements” to what I was already wearing. This first three houses were also in Florida where the humidity could melt a glacier and the winter cold spells freeze the iguanas.

I can be caught wearing a scarf, long sweater and jammie pants when it’s 90 out, then I strip down to barely nothing, or nothing at all when it’s 40 out. With a frozen washcloth on my head and a hand fan pointed at my under boob.

Picture it. It’s funny.

Maybe I should get some leg warmers.

Now that I am in 463 square feet and only two rooms (bath not included), I still need two sets of things. I have a hand fan in one room, a neck fan in the other. Damp washcloths are in both rooms as well.

Airplane blankets are everywhere as they make for a good cover during a chill, and they barely take up any room.

I have a scarf and long sweater in the living room and a bandeau top and a sarong in the other, ready to go as soon as the hot flash hits.

In 463 square feet, it takes mere seconds to get to the other room...but hot flashes move faster than I do.

At least we don’t have stairs.
